The first edition of this book along with its English translation was published in 1977. Until that year, no other book giving general information about the museums province-wise had been published. The first editions of the book received wider interest than expected. The English version had a second edition in 1983 and the Turkish in 1985. The Turkish edition was immediately sold out. Now this book with some alterations is being published for the fifth time in 1999. In the book, there is the introduction with general outline of the museums currently open in Turkey. As a person who has served as a curator for 37 years, laid foundation of many museums and taken part in their reorganization, I want to say that I feel immense pleasure while revising this book. I earnestly thank the Directorate General of İş Bankası for giving me this happiness.
