The historical center of Florence, despite the urbanistic reorganization it went through during the second half of the XIXth century and the disfigurations suffered in the last war, remains today a typical Medieval and Renaissance setting. The side Streets are small, narrow and tortuous, not very suitable for the chaotic traffic. In order not to create traffic jams and transform the small streets and piazze into gas chambers, the City Council has closed a good part of the center to the traffic and has strongly limited it in other areas.
The tourist that wants to visit Florence cannot leave his car in the area of artistic interest without risking either a ticket or a trip to the garage where all the misparked cars are taken. It is much better to park the cars in the main authorized parking lots or parking spaces that surround the center of the city.
