On the human scale, the drama of its design will create the kind of awe inspiring personal reaction the Games seek to evoke. Through its grand ceremonial entrances - which will suggest the architectural form of İstanbul's ancient arched aqueducts - the Park will unfold in a series of richly landscaped European boulevards, avenues of human interaction linked by the bold, broad plazas that inspire flights of imagination. Dominated by dancing fountains and striking architectural monuments, these plazas will shape the visual experience of the Olympics in the most positive and futuristic fashion - and provide, at the same time, an ideal setting for the restaurants, concessions and resting points so important to the success of the Games.
At the heart of it all, there will be a river - the Olympic River - coursing through the Park in a meandering ribbon of blue, creating a link with the Bosphorus and the beautiful waters that nurtured İstanbul's origins. The naturally tranquil qualities of the Olympic River will call people to relax along its stepped banks and soak in the atmosphere of this most intriguing Olympic environment.
From every vista, spectators will behold the rising forms of 12 separate stadiums and arenas, culminating at the Park's highest elevation with the magnificent structure of the 100,000-seat Olympic Stadium. All the boulevards and plazas in the Park will lead inexorably toward the vision of the great stadium, where everyone will see floating above it all - the symbolic brilliance of the f1ame burning against the sky. But İstanbul's flame in 2000 will be unlike any flame that has preceded it. From the base of the cauldron that holds the bright fire of ancient Olympia, there will emerge a stream of water that will cascade in a mighty waterfall down the back wall of the Olympic Stadium. The cauldron of the flame will serve as the source of the Olympic River, uniting at once the symbols of the purity of the Games and the cradle of civilization. Fire and water from a cup of the earth - these are the themes that inform İstanbul's bid and shape the dreams that have produced the idea of the Olympic Park.....
