Treasures of Istanbul
The major reason in selecting Istanbul as European Capital of Culture in 2010 was the fact that Istanbul is the capital of civilizations and cultures in world history. Culture of entire world lives in the roots of Istanbul. The memory of a city which ruled the world for five centuries reminds of this cultural background every day.
Istanbul is increasingly becoming a centre of attraction, centre of culture and art for the world not only with its past but also with its present. Cities will form the character of the new century; cities will carry cultures of the world further and each city will share its background with the rest of the world. As one of the oldest capitals of the world, Istanbul will take its place in the centre of the new global culture.
For Istanbul, being European Capital of Culture in 2010 is a discovery journey in Europe because roots of European culture live in Istanbul; each exploration provides an opportunity to discover the treasures of this culture. Ruins of Byzantine and Ottomans on the shores and hills, in the squares and streets of Istanbul live one next to the other or sometimes one within the other. Our current responsibility is to protect and improve these treasures and tell to the rest of the world.
Istanbul shall be a successful European capital of culture when this project is accepted by residents of Istanbul and with their support of high level participation. With this cognition, MetroCity Shopping Centre shall undersign important projects in 2010. As one of these projects,. A 3 D Istanbul photographs book was prepared in English in order to introduce rich heritage of Istanbul in Europe. We are proud of presenting this special book to friends of MetroCity Shopping Centre.
